how to play

pads or A–K: play chords. they're always in key.
space: strike the chord you're holding (or the last one) in rhythm.
option + a pad: flip it major ↔ minor.
the door is a filter. drag it, fling it, or hold shift. let go and it swings back to where it was.
the light switch: flip it up and the door slams all the way shut when you let go of shift.
the drums on the floor: tap the kick (every beat, and the music ducks), the hat (offbeats) and the snare (2 and 4). click the sign above them to swap kits: 909, 808, disco, dusty or toy. through the door? under them puts the drums behind the door with the music.
✎ program the beat: draw your own loop (16 steps: tap for a hit, again for an accent), add an open hat, swing it, tune and shape each drum, and set how hard the kick ducks the music and how fast it comes back.
the words in the sentence: click to change (shift-click, or hold on a phone, goes back).
tempo: click it in rhythm to tap, or scroll.
the tape: press rec (or R), then play. it starts when you play and stops when the sound fades. the pads then play your recording. click the cassette to hear it. drop any audio file on the page to load it, or use load a sound… in ✎ edit.
✎ edit under the tape: trim it, fix its note, play it backwards, loop it, fade it.
dots: echo, space, wobble and dust.
the sentence also picks the bass: sub, organ, disco, acid, 909, reese, growl or rubber.
acid: the bass word turns into acid lines (squelches, wiggles, gurgles, slithers, bubbles, improvises). ✎ program the acid line to write your own, 303-style.
chords / bass / drums dots: their volumes.
on a phone: slide a finger across the pads to change chords, hold a word to step back, drag the tempo up or down. it plays even with the silent switch on, and the screen stays awake while you play.
glide: glissando. notes slide from one chord into the next (more dots, longer slides).
